Microsoft’s Security Essentials Free Antivirus is a Bad Joke

Okay.  Help me with this please…

Let’s say I just sold you a boat – alright?  Now, I told you all about all the great things this boat has to offer.  You have just bought the best boat on the market according to me.  You’re pretty happy about that aren’t you?  You get your boat up to the lake and drop it in the water.  It’s at this point that you realize that there is a hole you could put your hand through right in the hull of the boat.  You are now pretty pissed – right?

You call me up and I tell you, “Oh, yeah, that’s a known issue and we are working on that in our manufacturing process.  Future versions of that boat won’t have the hole in it.”  At this point, the veins in your forehead have already began to throb and you are about to have a stroke.  You are not so happy anymore.  Your trust in me has probably been brought to task.

You really can’t pull that kinda’ shit and expect to have customers come back to you.  So, tell me, why do we go back to Microsoft time and time again?

I’m not putting too much faith in Microsoft or their new Microsoft Security Essentials.  I’m guessing the fact that it’s free software is a good sign that not too many other people will either – and Microsoft knows it.  I think Microsoft should have named its antivirus software “Microsoft’s Security Patch” or “Microsoft Band-Aid.”  Give me a freakin’ break…

If you are in need of decent antivirus, I’ve used Computer Associates “ETrust Antivirus” for the past 5 years.  I think I pay roughly $30/year for it.  I have never had any virus issues since installing it.  I’m sure someone knows of a free antivirus that works great too; let me know what it is, just make sure it isn’t from Microsoft.
