Why GM and Ford Are Failing – Reason #1
I drove past a recently shuttered GM dealership near my home… I can’t say I’m disappointed (BTW – Bob Segar can kiss my ass too – the only thing “like a rock” on a Chevy is it’s ride).
I used to be all about buying American cars, but then I had the experience of owning a handfull of them. Some of the cars I puchased were used, but one was brand new. The only thing that all of them had in common, was their short life and extensive repair and maintenance records. In the past 15 years, I have owned three Fords, a Plymouth, and a total POS Pontiac (purchased new). The 1999 Pontiac Grand Am I owned was by far the biggest piece of junk ever to hit the streets.
It was a fun car to drive no doubt (when it wasn’t in for repairs). Although the car was stylish, sporty, and quick, the car’s reliability was terrible. The very first week I owned the vehicle, the accelerator cable snapped – that put a real quick damper on the pride of owning a new car. Alas… This was just the beginning of three more years of a perpetual pain-in-the-ass car. Finally, with only 42K miles on the car, I traded the car in. I purchased a brand new Honda CRV and have since purchased Honda’s and Toyota’s exclusively.
All I can say about GM and Ford is that they deserve the mess they’re in, because they suck. Years of making sub-par, unreliable pieces of junk have finally caught up with them. I know some of you may be thinking, “Where’s your loyalty? It’s un-American to buy foreign cars…” If you are willing to roll-the-dice when it comes to a such a large purchase, good luck to you, but I think you’re morons to risk it when there are clearly better made vehicles coming from Japan (Sorry Gramps, I know you’re spinning in your grave right now).
So there you have Reason #1 why American automakers are failing: American cars have been unreliable pieces of shit for too long.
